This is a shot of the old counter tops. They were hideous green Formica the previous owners had covered with vile blue contact paper.
This is a shot of the new counter tops. Tile with mahogany edging looks much better than the original. In addition, we replaced the faux wrought iron drawer and cabinet pulls with retro chrome.

Yesterday we started the backsplash behind the stove. We will install tile at least two rows high before deciding on decorative inserts or borders. It’s slow but fairly easy. The only cutting on the current layer will be to work around an electrical outlet.
The water supply for the refrigerator is now hooked up. It is happily making ice cubes. No going to the garage for ice!
The only source without going under the house was the cold water supply to the water heater in the pantry. Up the wall over the door, down the wall to floor level, through the wall under the cabinets and to the fridge. Simple job, but it took two hours to do it right.
We did the new counter tops on one side of the kitchen yesterday and today. Today we put the new stove and refrigerator in. Belly, belly nice looking!
The Pantry/Laundry Room got a major upgrade yesterday. The old crappy wooden shelves were removed, the wall painted to match the kitchen and new shelving from Lowe’s installed.
All in all, a satisfying 5 hour job. A coat of paint and $125 in shelving created a space that doesn’t frighten small dogs and little girls.
The Sun tricked me. It was a bright, reasonably warm day and the mower kept whispering my name. OK, OK, OK. I didn’t do the front yard, but the back got a haircut and a trim.
Not bad for the first mow of the season.
Today arrived with a sunny disposition and little threat of rain. At 7am it was 50 degrees with a high of 55 being projected. Should I enjoy the sunshine or break out the lawn mower for the first time this Spring?
Decisions. Decisions.
The work on the house continues this week with kitchen cabinet finishing. The pre-Spring weather continues to improve and the lawn mower will have to be brought out of hibernation in the next few weeks.
We did make it back from Seatac and a trip to IKEA. We got out of IKEA with leaving only $175 on the counter. Given some of our recent trips there, this was cheap!
Today we venture on the ferry to the Emerald City to pick up Bonnie’s friend, Lily at Seatac. Since we will be there we will enter the dark and forboding wilds of IKEA looking for a TV stand. If we don’t come back, send lots of money.
